As a summative assignment for our first unit in reading students were asked by Steven Spielberg to create a movie that included well developed characters, plot, setting, and theme. Within their movies students had to show cause and effect and answer the unit question, what kinds of challenges do people face and how do they meet them? The students had the choice to create either a script, storyboard, or short movie trailer. All the students in 5A chose a movie trailer. This is a majority of the students' first time working with a video camera and the movie software. Students used different programs (iMovie, MovieMaker, Video Star, and Lego Movie Maker) to create their trailers. Here are some of their creative trailers. Please feel free to leave feedback or comment to a student regarding their work. The Social Studies standard students were assessed on is, "Understand human and environmental interaction and its impact on the past and consequences for the future." Students also were assessed on the Language Arts standard, "Learn and use the general skills and strategies of the reading process to understand and interpret a variety of informational texts."
