Invention convention -march 26 & 27, 2015
Dear Parents,
The 5th Grade Invention Convention will be held on Friday, March 27th from 8:30 -11:00; judging will take place on Thursday, March 26th after school. Students need to be present on this day to be judged. No exceptions can be made. Please make arrangements if this conflicts with after school activities and transportation issues.
In preparation for this event, your child should be working on producing their invention at home. The invention should solve a relevant problem in their life. Parental assistance is encouraged; however, your child must be doing the work. Sometimes it is necessary to have parents help with things that might involve using dangerous tools (i.e. saws or drills etc.). Parents can also guide their child so that they are meeting the set deadlines. We encourage all students to have their inventions complete by no later than Monday, March 23rd. This will give students the week leading up to the Convention to prepare their digital slide presentation, print advertisement and sales pitch.
Students were given “An Intent to Invent” form today. They will be conducting a small survey to evaluate possible problems and solutions on which to base their invention. This form is due by Friday March 6th.
With careful planning, this can be a very rewarding learning experience for your child. Please take an active role in guiding their progress.
Sincerely,
The 5th Grade Teaching Team
